During each ultrasound we conduct, we work to allow you the best possible view of your baby on the day of your appointment. We are highly specialized in using medical ultrasound in this way and use the technology to its best advantage in order to educate on fetal development, increase family bonding, and encourage healthy prenatal behavior.

However, there are several factors outside of technician control which can impact the quality of any prenatal ultrasound, including:

• the amount and density of maternal tissue (particularly body fat) in front of the baby;
• the amount of amniotic fluid and relation of fluid pockets to the baby's face and body;
• the position of the baby in the uterus and obstructions to viewing the baby including placenta, uterine wall and baby's own body parts; and
• the developmental stage and size of baby.

Ultrasound is not capable of producing photographic quality images in most cases. Sonography offices are not (nor should be seen as) portrait studios and unlike such studios, technicians cannot pose your baby for better viewing or change the circumstances present in your body. We will, however, use our expertise to make the most of every situation to build your understanding of the developing baby using this amazing technology.

Please note that the fee paid for the ultrasound appointment includes only one visit and is non-refundable. If the technician decides that the circumstances are particularly difficult, we will only use 3/4D technology if conditions permit. If the factors above do not allow 3/4D imaging, we will reduce the ultrasound level (and related fees) accordingly to the standard 2D level available at the time of the appointment. If the technician recognizes that conditions are likely to change at another time to make 3/4D viewing possible (more likely if the issue is fetal position and fluid placement), she will recommend a return visit and offer a discount for a follow-up appointment.

We offer these only to strengthen the bonding and education gained during the study, and they do not represent any portion of the appointment fees, which are charged for the ultrasound study being performed.
